The small town of Skradin settled at an important location, at the place where the thousand year old continental road arriving from northwest meets River Krka. This continental road was a connection for Liburian and ancient Roman cities of Asseria and Varvaria, with Varvaria becoming Croatia's capital city in the 13th c. (now Bribirska Glavica - Bribirski Plateau). The town of Skradin was known as Scardona in the Roman and in subsequent medieval times, a place with its own bishop. By our times, the number of inhabitants has diminished to the hundreds (which is partly due to the ethnic Serbian population leaving the area in the war of the 1990s), Skradin yet has the administrative status of a town.

Life in contemporary Skradin spins around the presence of Krka. The town hosts the headquarters of the Krka National Park, this is where from the national park boats depart for the biggest attraction on Krka, the Skradinski Buk (Skradin Waterfalls). Yachts visiting the marina often bring personalities from the World's elite to Skradin, Bill Gates, as a returning guest included.
